Pinakotheke Editions began its activity in 1980 as a publisher specializing in books exclusively focused on the history of art in Brazil. To this date, it has published around 93 titles, and the quality of which has ensured Pinakotheke the most relevant awards in Brazil.
Its books, illustrated with reproductions of art works, contain texts written by notable authors and art critics about our most influential artists, such as Giovanni Batista Castagneto, Candido Portinari, José Pancetti, Raimundo Cela, Alberto da Veiga Guignard, Antonio Bandeira, Candido Portinari, Lasar Segall, Emiliano di Cavalcanti, Victor Brecheret, Cícero Dias, Bruno Giorgi, Alfredo Volpi, Antonio Dias, Leonilson, Lygia Clark, Servulo Esmeraldo, Frans Krajcberg, Gonçalo Ivo, Franz Weissmann, Wesley Duke Lee, Tomie Ohtake, Flavio-Shiró and Luciano Figueiredo.
As part of Pinakotheke's goal of spreading knowledge through educational activities, it has been publishing titles for children and young people since 2002. Jacob Klintowitz states, "The service this publisher has provided to Brazil and art is invaluable. It has introduced us to the 19th century with the Grimm Group, the Bernardelli Group, artists such as Parreiras, Castagneto, Batista da Costa, Marcier, Pedro Américo, Victor Meireles and important collections such as Roberto Marinho, Aldo Franco and Cultura Inglesa. It has long been a friend of parents. It is time for Pinakotheke to make a definitive alliance with children" in the presentation of the History of Brazilian Art for Children Collection by Nereide Schilaro Santa Rosa.
